Hi friends! Today was another good day with new exciting adventures. We went out this afternoon to a small classroom to teach marriage preparation classes and then to teach a class on leadership. It was our first time doing something like this but it was a neat experiance. We are getting to know many of the young people that attend the church here.
Peter came up with another list of things that we have been learning since landing in this new country....here is what he came up with (for your entertainment purposes only!):
1. The Mullet is in!
2. Manhole covers have much in common with the cover on any hole on Loony Toons. If you step on them there is a good chance you will end up in the manhole!
3. C-train cops have nothing on the lady who patrols the tram here. You don't buy tickets before you get on the tram but this old lady walks up and down the car yelling at you until you pay!
4. If you plan to walk at night a miner's helmet with light is advised as there are many streets and tunnels that have zero lighting but plenty of the previously mentioned manholes!
5. Bedrooms and living rooms are one and the same as are wardrobes and entertainment centres. (Could of made a pretty penny on that one we used to move around for fun!)
6. Hugging is the customary greeting some of the time for some of the people in some of the places in some situations. Unfortunately this is usually a shot in the dark so there is a lot of the go for the handshake and land the hug or vice versa going on!
7. Laundry goes a little something like this: turn on hot water heater, wait 1 hour, turn on breaker for washer, plug in washer, add 5 items of clothing (then it is full), start washer, after approximately 2 hours the machine will begin to sound like a jet airliner taking off and landing, after this occurs a dozen times or so you are nearly ready to take the clothes out, remove clothes and hang on line (in the sitting room) for 1 day to dry.
8. Bathing instructions: turn on hot water heater, wait 1 hour, begin filling tub (shower head is there but no curtain or rod and you don't want to risk upsetting the moody jet laundry machine which is nearly connect to the tub), yellowy-green IS the appropriate colour for bath water, climb into tub which is a slightly higher climb than getting on at your average pony ride (however what the tub boasts in height it sacrifices in width, my hips touch both sides), scrub-a-dub-dub
9. Both 7 and 8 require electricity. However when it goes out you no longer need to worry about laundry or bathing as the apartment turns into a steam room which gives you that oven fresh feeling and takes the wrinkles out of your clothes.
10. Cabs and transit are exceptionally cheap (approx. $0.40cdn/person). However in order to keep costs low things like seatbelts, shocks, vents, company uniforms, etc. must be left off of these high quality vehicles.
Enjoy!
