We just had a hallway conversation with a group of people and the topic of communion came up....now I'm thinking about it in my head....apparently we aren't allowed to serve communion....which makes sense because the Salvation Army doesn't practise it.....but what if you were serving it as a part of a devotional, to make people reflect, to have a physical representation for people so that they can physically break the bread and pour the wine (grape juice)....I think it is a powerful symbol.....but is it powerful enough to stand up for.....I'm not sure....I've taken part in communion, I've helped serve communion....would I do it again? Probably.....but not if I would get kicked out of college for doing it....I don't know.....what is your opinion??

Amanda,
Just pretend you are a good little girl in college. Once you get out on your own, you can pretty much do what you feel led in doing. Lindsay and I went to a church last week that had communion, baptism, and a baby dedication all in one service (it wasn't an Army church). I really sense the presence of God and could feel the sense of excitement when people were getting baptized. It was their public announcement that they are fellow members of God's church and family.
Hope all is well.
I still have to get in so I think I'm going to leave this one alone!!
Well Amanda I have had some very strong opinions on communion as most of the world knows.
I would say though that when you say that it is a powerful symbol (and I agree) that you must remember that it is just that, a symbol. Is there something else you could use as a physical representation?
I heard that they had communion at CFOT last year though.
These are good things to work through and understand, because even when you get out...you are on probation for 5 years I hear.
Looking forward to seeing you soon.
